Dimensional china sets the table: Yenke Peddler antiques

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- One of the first companies to produce vitrified (non-porous) china in the United States was Warwick China. In fact, a few of its pieces were once displayed at the Oglebay Mansion Museum in Wheeling, WV.

Getting the business in full operational mode by 1888-89, it blossomed, especially with a red overglaze that seemed to catch fire -- literally. The accidental over-firing became so popular that it became a standard finish!

Punch bowls, chamber pots, tobacco jars and vases galore filled the many orders. Many decorations included decals, in floral designs and portraits. Most popular were the faces of monks and Native Americans.

Dinnerware sets were the rage from 1914-1951, with hotels and restaurants requesting certain designs.

Originally founded by C.E. Jackson, four others joined the rank of owners. Their interest in fraternal orders carried their ideals forward.

A reminder that Flag Day is set for June 14. Fly the red, white and blue proudly and honor our Stars and Stripes.

Hi Yenke Peddler,

This is a lovely little pot that has been in our family for many years. I don't know about its usefulness though. Any ideas?

Hi Arlene,

Your lidded casserole dish is quite unusual! It has a floral detail that speaks to the design of an Italian maker, as in Capodimonte influence. It may have been made here in America, with that notation in mind. I see some floral damage, but also notice the whimsy of a "footed" base, with eyes and a smile depicted through the china. The value would be $75 as is.
