Sneak peek at new Green Line trolley coming to City Hall Plaza

The MBTA is unveiling a full-scale mockup of its new Green Line train next week at City Hall Plaza and is asking for the public’s feedback.

A model of the transit system’s Type 10 Green Line train, which will eventually replace the existing fleet of Green Line cars, will be on display on Tuesday and Wednesday, MBTA officials said in a statement.

“The MBTA’s System-Wide Accessibility and Vehicle Engineering teams have been working hard to ensure the Type 10s will be the most accessible car yet, but your feedback is critical,” the statement said.

In 2022, the MBTA awarded a contract of over $810 million to CAF USA Inc. to make over 100 “supercar” trolleys replace its current fleet.

The MBTA is asking for the public to provide feedback on the vehicle’s design.

The train’s new features include four seating areas for wheeled mobility devices, larger visual messaging signs, digital passenger information screens, audible announcements provided in a visual format, additional assistance request buttons, and an inductive hearing loop for riders with hearing aids available throughout the train.

All of the train is low-floor for “easier boarding and alighting” for riders, the statement said. Once the current train fleet is retired, platforms will be raised to provide level boarding similar to the Red, Orange, and Blue lines.

Visiting hours are from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. and representatives from System-Wide Accessibility will be present from 10 a.m. until noon.
